Bobby McFerrin en de pentatonische schaal

Bobby McFerrin, stemkunstenaar (Don't worry be happy), tijdens een wetenschapscongres uit wat de kracht is van verwachting. Tijdens dit congres probeert McFerrin met wat neurowetenschappers antwoord te geven op deze vragen:

Is our response to music hard-wired or culturally determined? Is the reaction to rhythm and melody universal or influenced by environment?

De antwoorden op de vragen staan vast hier wel ergens, maar nuislog is met name geboeid door het onderstaande toonexperiment.
